PRE CARE
Eat before your appointment.
Do not tan or come with a sunburned face.
Avoid smoking 24 hours before the procedure.
Lip Fillers must be done 4 weeks before or after the procedure.
Avoid exercising or any heavy physical activities the day of your appointment.

If you happen to have your appointment before, during, or after your menstrual cycle, you will be more sensitive to pain.
Do not consume caffeine, tea, or alcohol 24hours before your appointment. This results in more pain, excessive bleeding, and swelling.
Through the sensation of micro-pigmentation is minimal, all clients will respond to pain differently. To alleviate possible discomfort, a strong topical anesthetic will be applied before and during the procedure. Do not consume any pain killers or blood thinners 48 hours before your appointment. (advil, ibuprofen, Aspirin, Niacin, etc). Tylenol 1 can be taken 30 mins to 1 hr before your appointment without any contraindications should you have a really low pain tolerance.
Please rebook or reschedule your appointment should you have a cold sore outbreak. Failure to do so will result in automatic cancellation of your appointment and your deposit will be forfeited.
5 DAY REGIMEN: Exfoliate and moisturize your lips 5 days before your appointment, coming to your appointment with dry and chapped lips will result in irritation, poor work/retention, more swelling/bruising. We recommend vaseline or Aquaphor to moisturize your lips, these can be purchased at any drugstore and as for lip exfoliation, you can purchase a lip scrub at any drugstore or do a DIY lip scrub at home, watch the video below for our recommendation:
IMPORTANT: COLD SORES (SIMPLEX VIRUS HERPES)
We value your safety and the work we do on your face, it is important to be informed that this kind of procedure, may trigger and cause a cold sore outbreak on or around the lip area if you already have had an underlying or history of cold sore in the past. It is important to consult your physician first and request to be prescribed a ZOVIRAX or VALTREX before booking a lip appointment with us. Taking preventative medication is recommend on the day of and for 4 consecutive days as a potential outbreak can occur as the skin’s natural reaction to the procedure. If you experience frequent outbreaks, please note that this procedure can only be done after 4 weeks from your most recent outbreak. All other questions or concerns regarding medications and outbreaks should be discussed with your healthcare physician.
Please understand that we love to make sure you are informed and prepared for your appointment with us, if lips are dry, cracked, peeling, or have scars on the day of your appointment or the pre care instructions are not followed that can interfere with the procedure, we reserve the right to cancel your appointment. The procedure cannot be performed if the lip skin is not properly prepared.

A topical anesthetic will be used during the procedure to help relieve pain
It is important to remember that everyone’s pain tolerance will be different.
AFTER CARE X HEALING STAGES
The photo below is a guide on what to expect during the healing process. This photo was sent by one of our clients.
DAY 1 - 3
The color will be 40% darker than the color we put in during your appointment. Do not worry, this is normal and part of the healing process.
It’s normal to experience swelling and lymph fluid production even after the procedure.
Swelling will subside within 24 hours or on DAY 2.

DAY 4 - 6
Your lips will start to shed, scab, and feel itchy. Please DO NOT pick, rub, lick, or itch your lips! Doing so can cause poor pigment retention, irritation, and infection. Let it shed on its own.
To help relieve any discomfort, apply the cream given to you. It is important to keep your lips hydrated.
DAY 7 - onwards
The color will lighten.
You will continue to experience minimal shedding.
It is normal to experience not seeing any color but the color gradually blooms in 5-8 weeks, so please be patient.
IMPORTANT DO’S & DONTS
DO
Try using a straw when drinking if possible.
Once you get home, rinse your mouth with an antiseptic mouthwash.
If you are wearing a mask, it is important to change your mask 3-4x a day.
Do your best to avoid getting toothpaste on your lip when brushing your teeth.
If you’d like to minimize swelling, you can put ice in a clean ziplock bag to ice your lips.
Clean your lips with water morning and night. No soaps or cleansers unless instructed by the artist.
Try to change your pillowcase and sleep on a clean pillowcase to avoid irritation or infection.
Keep it moist or hydrated using a&d ointment, the cream given to you. Apply this in a light dabbing motion using a q-tip or clean ring finger. Do not press or rub when applying the cream.
Do the blotting method. As discussed earlier, lymph fluid production is a normal occurrence with any wound healing. When you see a clear fluid produced from your lips, it’s normal. Grab a clean tissue and blot it lightly. Too much lymph fluid production can cause poor retention and dry lips.
AVOID
Sleeping on your stomach/face.
Avoid spicy food or super hot drinks.
Avoid botox, lip flip, lip fillers chemical peel, microdermabrasion, and micro-needling for at least 5 weeks.
No oral sex, kissing, foreign body fluids, or touching of lips for at least 7 days, as this can cause an infection.
Do not apply vaseline, Neosporin, lip gloss, makeup, or lipstick on your lips while it is healing. Only apply the cream given to you.
Avoid biting into foods that might cause friction to the lips; ex. eating an apple or corn, make sure you slice this in smaller portions.
Too much sun exposure, hot bath/shower, sun tanning/tanning beds, sauna, swimming pool, excessive sweating; only work out until all the scabs have fallen off.
Smoking or Vaping for 7 days; we understand this is hard to do. Please understand that we will not be responsible for poor retention or any infection/irritation that occurs from smoking or vaping.
CAUTION: COLD SORES (SIMPLEX VIRUS HERPES)
As mentioned earlier, this procedure can trigger an underlying history of cold sore if you’ve already had it in the past. Cold Sore or Simplex Virus Herpes lies dormant in the nervous system forever and can reappear if you are exposed to trauma; (ie, friction and repetition of needles on the lips.) IF a cold sore occurs AFTER the procedure, this will most likely appear on DAY 3 of healing, please note that is not caused by your tattoo or artist but due to the nature of this virus. Should a cold sore outbreak occur, it is important to contact your healthcare physician.
CAUTION: HEAT RASH OR SMALL PIMPLES AROUND THE LIP AREA
If the skin around the tattooed area breaks into a heat rash or small pimples, this is usually a reaction to the numbing solution and should go away on its own in a couple of weeks. Please do not pick at it! It is important to give us a call or email us so we can make a note on your file regarding this type of reaction. It is important to call your healthcare physician should this occur.
TOUCH UP
A touch-up may be needed 2-6 months to 1 year after the first touch-up procedure depending on your skin, medications, and sun exposure. We recommend the first touch-up 2 months after the first session, then every 6 months to 1 year to keep your tattoos looking fresh and beautiful! Please send us photos of your lips under natural light and without makeup via email to book@thebeautyprinciple.com to see if a touch-up is necessary. Due to the nature of how our body heals differently, at different phases, and the nature of this procedure as all stated above, a touch-up fee is not included in the initial fee.
We cannot control how much color our skin chooses to absorb or how it decides to heal. Most procedures require a second session to fix any result inconsistencies Minor adjustments in color and shaping are possible at the second session.
